A significant share of our residential clients want both a Vastu-compliant layout and a clean, contemporary interior. Treated as opposing briefs, this leads to frustration. Treated as two sets of constraints to design within, it rarely is.

Resolve orientation at the layout stage, not the finishing stage

Kitchen placement, main door direction and the position of the master bedroom are structural decisions. Trying to accommodate them after the layout is finalized is where most conflict — and cost — comes from. These should be on the table during the very first planning conversation.

Material and color choices rarely conflict with either brief

Most Vastu guidance concerns placement and direction, not material or palette. A contemporary material language — matte finishes, warm wood tones, minimal ornamentation — can sit comfortably within a Vastu-compliant plan.

Bring both briefs to the table on day one

The projects that run smoothly are the ones where the Vastu consultant, architect and interior designer are aligned before the first drawing is finalized — not brought in sequentially to patch each other's decisions.
